Several of my friends and professional colleagues over here have bought the Stagea and D-Deck models, for example. When he took a back seat, it was only a matter of time before Roland went back to the core business of pianos and synths. With Technics pulling out completely, the only Japanese maker to buck the trend was Roland, and I think that had much to do with Mr K's influence. I've no doubt that the same applied to Kawai, as their Dreamatone range would have sold well over here too. I remember speaking with the guys at Yamaha UK some years ago and they would have loved to be able to sell the Stagea and D-Deck models in the UK, but they couldn't. In addition, there would have been a need to revoice some 'home market' models to suit Western 'ears'. ![]() ![]() The profits that would come from ever dwindling sales in these markets would not have justified the costs. The prime reason was that EU and US electrical and electronics standards were different enough to require separate production lines, with specific parts required for each market. Some years ago, makers like Yamaha and Kawai decided to withdraw from major worldwide markets such as the USA and Europe. Perhaps worth restating the facts for people who haven't seen previous discussions: ![]()
